Bex & Dave

A beautiful, contemporary wedding set in one of Yorks historic wedding venues…

Bex and Dave tied the not knot in The Hospitium in York. The venue is placed within the beautiful Museum Gardens and has the advantage of private access only for the wedding party from 9:00PM.  This makes for some wonderful opportunities to maximise on wedding portraiture for the bride and groom. Bex chose her wedding dress through the Harrogate Wedding Lounge and their blog with details of the dress can be found here. We followed Bex and Dave throughout the day.

We started the wedding photography and wedding videography with the bridal preparations at Marmadukes Town House Hotel just a short distance from the wedding venue. The private, separate building for the bridal party enjoyed the night before at the hotel.  A quiet self contained flat with kitchen, dining area, full bathroom facilities and hotel service made this a perfect venue for the wedding photography and wedding videography to start!

Their style

Working with Bex and Dave to decide the style for their wedding was an easy process that started quite early on. Clean style which flowed between the wedding photography and wedding video was important for obvious reasons! No one wants two different looks for their imagery after all. The wedding photography takes into account the ethos of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (of which Graham is a long standing member) and whilst separate, the wedding video follows suit.

From the outset we agreed that the most important part was remaining as unobtrusive as possible to allow for the day to unfold naturally with the little moments caught from the periphery. This style works well for us as we always want to be their to capture and not control. Capturing the portraiture requires a little more control of the happy couple whilst trying to keep the same style and capturing the genuine emotion unfolding. We caught it all; tears, non stop smiles, emotional speeches and readings before finally styling the edit to suit the day.

A soft, colourful approach with minimal interference, edited sympathetically for the colours of the day and with a matt over tone finished the image set. The wedding video compliments the images with a similar finish. Whilst having a style that works with the images, the final edit keeps to balanced colours and tone that is in keeping with a traditional, high quality production.  The finished product all round had the Bride and her family in tears more than once!
